Entre les lignes explores the interval between the visibility of a person and what we believe we know of them. Portraiture becomes a site of tension between presence and projection, where the recognition of a figure leaves open the question of what constitutes them.

Emerging from a long-term artistic and conceptual enquiry, the series brings together pattern, transparency and depth to challenge the stability of the image. The figure surfaces within a structure that shifts with the viewer’s perspective, resisting both fixity and the interpretations imposed upon it.

This perceptual mobility prompts a reflection on the authority of the visible: what an appearance allows us to presume, the identities we project onto it, and what invariably escapes them. Depth becomes less an effect than a means of questioning the apparent certainty of the image.

In continuity with Pola 4.0’s other bodies of work, Entre les lignes thus confronts the fixity of representation with the irreducible complexity of the individual. The image captures a presence; it can never exhaust its singularity.
